Tess Ecology in action Small group of concerned citizens in eco-actions

A local effort in Lompoc Valley organizes recycling through the Youth Ecology Action Group with support from the Lompoc Valley Boys Club the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the Sierra Club and Citizens for the Preservation of Lompoc Surroundings. An eco-center at 308 N. H St houses bottles cans and papers donated for reuse. Leadership spans Mrs Arneta Crossman Miss Barbara Jellow and Bob Hickenbotham among others as organizers urge individual contributions and community participation.

Bear fire ravages San Bernardino with hot spots erupting

Firefighters fought new hot spots as the Bear fire grew to 91 800 acres in the San Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear Lake. About 3 300 firefighters from eight states worked to contain the blaze, damaging 54 residences and forcing disaster-area relief measures.

Meir withdraws demand for full Egyptian missile rollback

Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir announced that Israel would drop the demand for a complete missile rollback in cease-fire zones as a precondition for resuming talks. Too Low Flying Blamed for Marshall Crash

Federal investigators say a Southern Airways DC9 flew too low on approach to Tri-State Airport in fog and rain, skimming treetops before plunging into a wooded ravine. The crash killed 75 people including 36 Marshall football players, five coaches, and crew members after a short flight from Kinston, North Carolina.
