Trials of blood bank recalls a north county effort

Dr. L E Heiges recalls forming the Tri-Counties Blood Bank in 1949 to supply blood for hospitals and emergencies across San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. The non profit TCBB now operates from 902 Laguna St Santa Barbara with volunteers and a small paid staff. mobile units draw 40 to 80 units in Lompoc every eighth Friday, while donors face strict qualifications and seasonal demand.

Pilot identified in fatal Santa Maria crash

The pilot Henri Marcius Rosso age 44 of Santa Ynez, a Meadowlark Ranch resident and freelance architect, died when his light orange and white plane wrecked near Santa Maria Airport. His body was found 9:20 a.m. yesterday about 100 yards north of 4000 S lesser Rd. A witness heard a crash about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Girl 16 Hurt In Auto Accident In Lompoc

Dianna Dean Tootle 16 was treated at Lompoc Hospital after her car struck a parked car on Orth Avenue. Police described a chain of impacts involving a Cline vehicle and Beattie Motors property, ending in a driveway at 1000 North P Street with property damage.

Funeral services are pending for 81 year old Mary Schneider who died last night at Lompoc District Hospital. She last resided on Cooke Road and is survived locally by her daughter Olga Rivaldi of Cooke Road. Services are under Starbuck Mortuary.

Church Protest Over Sunday Bike Races Referred to County

Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church members protested Sunday bicycle races that blocked roads and delayed worship. The appeal for county aid was referred to Transportation Director Leland Steward after remarks by Rev. Ronald D. Holcomb and Nat Davis before the Board of Supervisors.

Lompoc preps grand ball to cap centennial year

The Lompoc Centennial Committee finishes plans for a New Year’s Eve grand ball at the Veterans Memorial Building. Tickets cost 3.50 and are available at City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Centennial A frame office in Centennial Square. The event features The Galleons, circular tables, and no costume judging.

The California Recreational Trails Committee in Santa Barbara endorsed the Mission to Mission trail plan for biking hiking and equestrian use. It urged seeking funding for the Santa Barbara County Trails Council led by Mrs George Obern of Hope Ranch. About 90 residents attended a Goleta Valley supper with county supervisors and city staffers.
