State chief denies politics in agriculture board actions
California Food and Agriculture Director C B Christensen and the State Board of Agriculture faced charges from an Assembly study and a citizen group accusing them of political involvement. The report claimed the board pursued presidential politics while neglecting high food costs. Christensen rejected the allegations as half truths and a political gimmick, noting he is a non voting participant and does not supervise the board. A separate charge tied two cattlemen's appointments to Flournoy support, which Christensen also denied. supporters cited industry nominations and reappointments with Sawyer and his son later named to industry councils.
