County to Open Methadone Clinic For 50 Addicts
About 50 hardcore heroin addicts in the Santa Barbara area will enroll in the county methadone maintenance clinic opening December 1. The program, approved by the state advisory narcotics committee, may rotate as a mobile clinic in Lompoc Santa Maria and Guadalupe next summer. The plan aims to treat addicts at Santa Barbara General Hospital with reduced urinalysis testing to lower costs from an initial 65 000 dollars to about 23 000 dollars annually.
