No U S fatalities for 48 hours in Vietnam
UPI reports the first 48-hour period in five years with no American combat deaths in Vietnam ended at noon today. Spokesmen cited aSharp slowdowns in South Vietnam and Cambodia, noting no significant ground clashes, though two helicopters were shot down in the Mekong Delta and one South Vietnamese was killed with six wounded in that incident.

IRS Grants Tax Exemptions to Public Interest Law Firms
The IRS announced it will grant tax exemptions to public interest law firms if their litigation serves the public interest and not private gain. Commissioner Randolph Thrower said exemptions require honest public concern and that the organization not disrupt the judicial system or violate ethics canons. About 50 public service firms exist, with growth expected, and no exemptions would be withdrawn under the guidelines.

Three AWOL Soldiers Captured. Hunt Narrowed in California
Three of six AWOL soldiers escaped from MPs en route to a San Francisco stockade were back in custody. The three remaining fugitives were still at large in Modesto where the escape station wagon was found. Names include Steven Tuggle and Charles Adams both 20, and Jeffery Holland. Kenneth Parks 18 from Tuolumne City, also AWOL from Ft Ord, was captured in Twain Harte. Myron Perkins 18 and Philip Miere 20 surrendered in Tuolumne City and Columba respectively. A friend, Gene Dickerson 20, was arrested for aiding the escape. The station wagon was recovered in Modesto.
