Drought relief aids farmers under three California laws
California farmers facing drought may receive relief under three new state laws. The Livestock Raisers Disaster Relief Act of 1977 offers up to 10 million dollars to offset property taxes on non irrigated land and sets eligibility based on farming income and land use. A separate act exempts drought affected livestock from head day taxes, while another law provides a 10 percent state income tax credit up to 500 dollars for farmers installing water saving irrigation equipment.
