California Voters Defeat Prop 18 on Highway Funds Bond
California voters rejected Prop 18, blocking a plan to divert state highway funds to smog research and mass transit. The defeat stood 2,864,599 to 2,433,100 with other measures also rejected or approved in the November 1970 ballot, including Prop 19 tightening loan sharking penalties and Prop 1 and 20 related bonds failing to gain approval.
