Daring policeman subdues convict on stairway siege
Three police captains and a sergeant ended a three hour siege by a convicted murderer Robert C Crump on a stairway after he held 50 officers at bay with a rifle dynamite and two hostages. Crump who killed his wife in 1959 earlier escaped from a Sonoma County prison camp and telephoned his step daughter Linda Butler during the confrontation. The sergeant and captains overpowered him. Crump faces kidnapping charges and faces parole hearing in January.
