Plans for $2.11 million complex under study

City of Lompoc reviews preliminary plans for a $2.1 million apartment sports complex on West Chestnut Avenue. The design includes 84 two story apartments, tennis courts, a municipal pool and a nine hole pitch and putt course. Developer is Joe Montanaro of Santa Barbara. Other projects include a $53,000 HRD building on Chestnut and I Street and a Holloway Plumbing complex at 900 North I Street. Construction volume for the city reached $1.075 million last month, with $2.363 million year to date, despite a drop from last year. In October, 15 building permits were issued totaling $156,775.

Planned Nixon campaign against press revealed in memos

White House aides including Haldeman Magruder and Colson sketched a broad 1970 plan to counter media bias using Agnew as chief critic. Proposals included a syndicated column, journalism dean commentary, an Earl Mazo or Victor Lasky expose, a prime time private funded special, and an onslaught of letters to the editor. The plan was not adopted and hearings paused without next witness.
