Mark Chambers Wins National Presbyterian College Scholarship

Mark J. Chambers of Lompoc won a National Presbyterian College Scholarship among eighty winners nationwide announced by the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Winners come from 25 states and will enter September 27 affiliated colleges. Scholarships are Board-sponsored or college-sponsored, renewable, based on need and merit.

Spotlight on Steve Genest Lompoc High School senior

Steve Genest, senior at Lompoc High, is this week's spotlight student. He has contributed to the Smoke Signal for two years, writes a personal column, and participates in AFL Snow trips, Quill and Scroll, and the American Field Service Club. He plans to attend Allan Hancock and UCSB for journalism and communications and aims to be a journalist. He works at Fast Gas this summer and enjoys backpacking, mountain climbing, and organic foods. His inspirations are his father a PR professional and teacher Jim Lowe. he admires John Muir for conservation and Yosemite’s founding legacy.
