Doctor demonstrates images of atoms with electron microscope
CHICAGO AP Six years of work and a one million dollar effort under the Atomic Energy Commission funded project led Albert V Crewe to reveal photographed atoms. He showed single uranium and thorium atoms magnified one million times and said the tool could guide molecular structures and cancer research. Crewe plans to extend the microscope to resolve closer atom spacings. He noted potential uses in medicine biochemistry and genetics and credited collaborators and mentors from University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins.
