Home Ec Group Reports Successful Sales Event

The Home Ec Group of the Grange met at Grange Hall on May 17 with Elsie Beattie in charge. Plans for the enchilada sale were finalized for Saturday and cake was to be brought to the May 25 Grange meeting while the lodge room tables were discussed. Lompoc Little League Opener Sets Wednesday

Lompoc's Little League season opens with two games on Wednesday at the ballpark after spring training and a recent player auction. Four teams include Red Kids, Beattie V-8s, Little Fellows, and Miller AXers with 15 players each. 9 to 12 year olds compete as the league aims for a wide open season.

Yanez and Stanley Reach CIF Finals in Track Field

Lompoc High stars Raul Yanez and Carl Stanley advanced to CIF finals after strong semi finals at Compton. Yanez, the 880 specialist, ran 1 57.7 to finish second as Stanley threw 52 9 inches, a new school mark, in the shot put. The CIF field in the 880 is set to feature Alhambra’s Knapp and six others under 1 58. Evans of Arroyo Grande also advanced in the Bee 660 with 1 24.3.

Stewart Campaigns in Lompoc for 13th District

William K. Stewart, Democratic candidate for U.S. Representative in the 13th District, campaigned door to door in Lompoc. A Pacific Grove resident, he practiced law, is 38, UC and Harvard Law School educated, World War I Purple Heart veteran, and Naval Reserve retiree. He was endorsed by the 13th District convention in San Luis Obispo. incumbent Charles Teague is the Republican opponent.

J-M Club Clinches City Volleyball Title in Playoff Sweep

The J-M Club defeated Camp Cooke Hospital 15 11 in the opener, then lost to Medics 15 10 before sealing the crown with a 15 5 victory. They finish 10 1 for the season with Camp Cooke 8 3. Team members include Bob Lee Wayne Burmester Joe Ames Jay R Sudbury and others.

Roterians Hear Report on Work Education Program

Marcia Batty of Santa Ynez High School entertained the Rotary Club with accordion selections. Virginia Beavers, director of Lompoc High School's Work Education program, outlined its background and progress. Principal Henry Hellekson said Lompoc's program will be featured in national magazines including the Saturday Evening Post and Collier's. Dolly Freiley and Darlene Dennis spoke about their experiences in the program.

Fish Fry by Lompoc Sportsmen Association Planned

Lompoc's Sportsman Association schedules its annual Fish Fry at the Veterans Memorial Building tomorrow evening starting at 6:30. Abalone and sea fish will headline the menu. The event is open to the public as a family affair, a spokesman said.
