Nixon Defies Subpoenas Over Watergate Tapes and Documents

President Nixon refused to comply with two House Judiciary Committee subpoenas for tapes and documents tied to Watergate. In a personal letter to Chairman Rodino, Nixon declined to release material, while aides said a partial transcript may be provided for an April 4 1972 ITT contribution discussion.

Summer youth job prospects expand for 14 to 22 year olds

Lompoc Valley youths 14 to 22 may find NYC jobs at $2 an hour with 234 hours maximum and $468 total earnings. Eligible graduates from high school in June can apply via the EDD office at Chestnut Avenue and I Street.

City Council assigns committee to study gas price posting

Cabrillo High senior dies in Abalone hike accident

Details emerge on a fatal coastal accident near Pt. Arguello where Cabrillo High School senior Gary Bunch 17 died at Marian Hospital after a 150 to 200 foot fall. Companions Vince Smith 17 and Scott Ryan 18 were with him. Smith summoned help while Ryan stayed with the injured youth. Coast Guard personnel and a search and rescue unit transported Bunch to hospital for treatment.

Senate panel backs Jaworski subpoena power in Watergate

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a 13 to 1 resolution affirming Special Watergate Prosecutor Leon Jaworski has authority to subpoena Nixon for information. The panel deleted a clause requiring Nixon to obey subpoenas and rejected public hearings on the scope of Jaworski’s powers. The White House plans an appeal while Judge Sirica has ruled Jaworski may subpoena information.
