Legislators seek delay to California sales tax hike

In Sacramento, Democrats and Governor Reagan push a 30 day postponement of the one cent sales tax increase due June 1. AB137 by Assemblyman Joe Gonsalves would delay the hike to allow talks and has cleared the Assembly, awaiting Senate action.

Harold Weiland obituary notes WWII service and survivors

Funeral services for Harold Frederick Weiland 57 who died Friday at St Francis Hospital Santa Barbara will be at Starbuck Mortuary Tuesday at 2 pm. The Rev. William J Denton will officiate with burial at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. He was born October 30 1915 in Amherst Ohio and served as a major in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He lived in Carpinteria and previously in Lompoc and worked for Culberson Realty Co. Surviving are son Kurt Weiland Provo Utah daughter Linda Ann Morrow Polk Ohio brothers Russell E Weiland Arletta and Donald M Weiland Avon Lake Ohio and two grandsons. Friends may pay respects at Starbuck Mortuary today until 8 pm and tomorrow from 8:30 am to noon.
