Ballot mailing delays after mislabeling Republican candidate

A printing error mislabeled Democratic State Senate candidate Omer Raines as Republican on a nonpartisan primary ballot delaying about 26 000 ballots in Santa Barbara and delaying distribution of 142 000 sample ballots. The error prompted a reprint by a San Francisco firm and put the mailing on hold several days.

Man faces DUI charges in Lompoc arrest

Walter Schoonover 20 of 630 North A Street Apt B was arrested early Sunday near Lompoc Casmalia and Constellation Roads and booked in Lompoc Jail on $1 750 bail.

AFL-CIO Wins County Clerks Union Vote

The SEIU local representing 551 non supervisory county clerks won bargaining rights in a runoff vote 253 to 201 over the County Employees Assn. State Conciliation Service supervised. Previous tally was 220 to 212 with 13 none. Firemen and sheriffs already have separate unions.

Weekend mishaps claim multiple injuries in Santa Barbara area

A Santa Barbara woman, Carolyn Judith Williams, 24, was killed Friday after falling from a pickup as she tried to keep a load of branches from sliding. Driver William Charles Ramme, 25, was uninjured. Other incidents include Andres Gomez, 21, Santa Ynez, with a possible broken back after a rollover on Lompoc Casmalia Road. Gary Bunch, 18, injured neck in a fall at Vandenberg Village hospital transfer. Douglas Franklin, 21, Santa Ynez, with major head and chest injuries after a rollover near Chalk Hill Road. Florence Sands, 77, and Geneva Dillehay, 56, minor injuries in a Lompoc collision. Henry Montoya, 11, minor injuries from bicycle collision. and other accidents in Lompoc and Santa Maria area.

Graveside services for Charles H. Burgess in Evergreen Cemetery

Charles H. Burgess a former Lompoc resident died Saturday in a Santa Maria convalescent home. He was born January 5, 1893 in Washington DC and lived in Lompoc 53 years. A custodian for Santa Barbara County in retirement he once owned a confectionery beside the Lompoc Theater. He is survived by cousin Marjorie Spiler of Washington DC. Rev Eugene Ashlock will officiate at Evergreen Cemetery services with Starbuck Mortuary handling arrangements. Friends may call tomorrow 2 to 8 p.m.
