Park agreement abandoned by Lompoc City Council
The Lompoc City Council voted to sever an agreement with the State Division of Highways for river bottom land sale tied to Rt. 1 freeway land purchases. HUD delays prompted termination, with the city later able to buy land from the state potentially at a lower price due to access changes. The council also approved ordinances on auto wrecking yards, hospital use permits, and zoning changes, plus funding for the Flower Festival Luncheon and city health insurance, and bids for a street paving machine. A drainage study committee was postponed, and fencing around leased city property was tabled.

PLUS hails Harris Grade delay in freeway plan
Preserve Lompoc's Unique Surroundings welcomes the postponement of the Harris Grade freeway agreement as the Board of Supervisors delays to July 2 for an environmental impact report. PLUS questions the use of the state highway agency for the study and calls for independent review. The project would shorten the route between Lompoc and Santa Maria at an estimated 7.5 million dollar cost and remove curves. Opponents hope plans are dropped.
