Dan A. Novak of Vandenberg AFB earned a Presidential appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy for entry with the Class of 1974 this summer. The 18 year old cadet candidate is the son of Lt. Col. Dan G. Novak and Mrs. Novak of Van Denberg. He graduated Cabrillo High School in 1969 and has attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He will report June 29 for basic cadet training lasting seven and a half weeks before the Aug start of the school year.

Solvang man to be sentenced in Vietnam armor case
James B. Harris, 41, of Solvang and former assistant manager at Reflective Laminates of Fan Steel Corp pleaded no contest to failing to run ballistics tests on helicopter armor used in Vietnam. He faces up to five years and a $10,000 fine with sentencing set for June 15.

Rosie's funeral drew hundreds in Soho as Jack Hardiman raised 550 dollars for a first class service and headstone. Timothy Cotter 54 known as Rosie had died in Brixton Prison after a drunkenness fine. Locals recall his kindness and odd fashion, songs, dances, and prayers for Apollo 13 astronauts.

Letter from Vietnam casualty warns war is immoral
Army Spec. 4 Keith K. Franklin 19 wrote a sealed letter to his parents before departing for Vietnam. He died last Tuesday in Cambodia and the note pleads that his death not be in vain, condemning the war and urging the American people to wake the silent majority. He enlisted in March 1969 and is survived by his parents, two sisters, and a brother. Franklin will have a civilian burial by his choice.

Demonstrations at University of Alabama. 37 Arrested
Police cleared 200 demonstrators from Florida Memorial College campus in a Monday night incident. Tear gas was used on the Opa-Locka campus to disperse students surrounding the Administration Building. Two officers were injured and two newsmen attacked during the clashes. About 46 people were arrested on disorderly conduct charges. A candlelight march involved 150 to 200 participants at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Romney to Return Part of Salary to Signal Inflation Fight
