No more privileges for refugees from Saigon officials
The new U S refugee task force chief Nick Thorne promised all refugees would be treated equally and rejected special exit privileges for 13 South Vietnamese generals and their families who left Camp Pendleton without security clearances or sponsors. The decision followed reports that former Saigon officials had been allowed to depart with credentials from the U S embassy in Saigon. In addition, the camp faces overcrowding with 26 038 arrivals including about 1 000 from Cambodia and 18 559 housed while 7 479 have been released.
