Obituary: Fred C. Jackson 89 San Jose conductor
Fred C. Jackson 89 died May 3 1969 in San Jose. A Lompoc native and Southern Pacific Railroad conductor, he began his career on the Lompoc to Surf line in 1902 and later rode the Daylight Limited between Los Angeles and San Francisco before his 1945 retirement. He is survived by a daughter, a granddaughter, two great granddaughters, and was a member of multiple Masonic and fraternal orders.

California to issue new gold on blue license plates
Governor Reagan announced a switch to gold on blue plates for California cars starting in October. The change will take seven years to complete as the 15.35 million current letter-number combinations run out by October. The new plates display three numbers followed by three letters and are expected to last until about 1978. Reagan unveiled the plan with Gordon Luce and Verne Orr at a news conference.
