California speed limit bill clears first Assembly panel
A bill to raise rural freeway speed limits to 65 mph while keeping 55 mph elsewhere passed the Assembly Transportation Committee on a 9 to 4 vote and moves to the Ways and Means Committee. It would take effect only if the federal 55 mph limit is repealed. The U S Senate blocked a repeal attempt this week.
