Israel carries deep air strikes into Lebanon after Maalot attack

Israeli warplanes launched their heaviest strikes into Lebanon since the 1973 war in retaliation for the Maalot massacre that killed 30 Israelis. Targets near Beirut and in five South Lebanon districts included refugee camps, with Israel warning of further strikes as Egypt and the United States urged restraint.

Nixon vows no resignation amid Watergate turmoil

President Nixon tells syndicated columnist James J. Kilpatrick in the Oval Office interview that he will not resign or invoke the 25th Amendment even if impeachment moves forward. He says he can handle foreign policy and his defense, aims to defend the constitutional process, and believes stepping aside would hurt national stability.
