Tornadoes and High Winds Hit Kansas and Midwest
UPI reports several tornadoes struck south central Kansas Monday night causing property damage and minor injuries. Moundridge lost power, a farmhouse and barns were demolished, and a DC-3 at Hutchinson Airport was blown across a runway. A Topeka grain elevator suffered roof damage while a northeast Topeka house and two mobile homes were damaged. Thunderstorms spread from Illinois to Oklahoma with 70 mph gusts in Ponca City and 60 mph winds in Oquawka Illinois.

Commission: Census Underounded Spanish Speakers in 1970 Count
The U S Civil Rights Commission says the Census Bureau substantially undercounted Spanish speaking residents in 1970. It criticizes mailed forms for English speakers and urges methods upgrades including more Spanish speaking staff for the 1980 census. So Cal carpenters strike over pay board cut
About 32,000 Southern Californian carpenters walked off their jobs to protest a 30 cent hourly cut by the federal pay board. Dan Peterson called the walk illegal and sought a court injunction by Wednesday. Paul Miller said most carpenters would stay off work until the 30 cents due since May 1 is restored.
