Board approves muni court plan for Lompoc district

The Board of Supervisors approved creating a Lompoc Municipal Court District replacing the justice court with state action to follow. The district would cover a 48 000 population area including Vandenberg AFB and Buellton path with backers from north county bars. Opponents warn higher county costs while related projects include a 50000 storm drain extension with 25000 county share and 150000 federal funds application for 300000 Waller County Park improvements.

Bakun Bound Over In Marijuana Possession Case

Michael Joseph Bakun, 21, of 619 East Ocean Avenue, bound over to Santa Maria Superior Court to answer charges of possessing marijuana for sale. Lompoc Justice Court Judge Terrill F. Cox ordered Bakun to appear in Santa Maria on May 29.

Fire destroys Surf railroad building early today

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a railroad building at Surf early today. Firemen faced a near explosive risk when water contacted magnesium radio parts. No injuries occurred as county and Vandenberg AFB units responded at 5:04 a.m. Winds hampered suppression and one freight train was halted as a precaution. The building was slated for demolition tomorrow.

Sierra Club plans roadway clean up for Lompoc centennial

The Arguello Group of the Sierra Club announces a Sunday May 19 litter hike along major north into Lompoc roads. Volunteers from Sierra Club and other groups will collect paper bottles cans and recycle as much as possible. Retirees to be honored by Lompoc Education Association

The Lompoc Education Association will honor seven district employees at its annual retirement dinner. Retiring are four teachers Florence Burke Paula Morlock Margaret Schuyler Barbara Westrope and three custodians Herman Schlager Posey Southern and Roman Libonno.
