Fifth and sixth Santa Barbara County rabies cases reported
Health Department Laboratories diagnosed the fifth and sixth animal rabies cases in Santa Barbara County since 1972. A rabid skunk was trapped at 344 Kendale Drive Buellton by federal trapper Wayne Robertson and a bat found in Goleta tested positive. The county totals reach 14 since 1956, with bats implicated in ten cases. Previously, a rabid fox near the Ventura line in 1966 and a rabid cat at Vandenberg AFB in 1967 were documented.
