Lompoc and Righetti Clash for County League Title

The Santa Barbara County League championship will be decided at Elks Field in Santa Maria as Lompoc and Righetti meet after both sealed CIF playoff berths. Lompoc’s Roy Thomas, 6-0, will oppose Righetti ace Randy Foster or Frank Reyes in a pivotal 3:15 p.m. showdown.

Gibson Says Cards Not Worried Over Cubs Margin

St Louis ace Bob Gibson, who had three hits and a steal in a 6-2 win over the Dodgers, remains untroubled as Chicago leads the NL race. Julian Javier drove in three runs as Ferguson Jenkins pitched a five hitter for the Cubs in a 2-0 blanking of San Diego. Andretti tops 170 mph as Indy practice starts

Base to host North all-star grid team

Vandenberg Air Force Base will host the Northern All-Stars' two week summer camp for the County Boys' Club benefit classic against the South on August 2. Major General G. W. Johnson approved base use, with Colonel Phil Cardin praising the cooperation and Will Stensland thankful for the facilities. The camp opens July 18 with a public press day and includes billeting at the base with access to athletic facilities.

Angels edge Senators as Wilhelm seals sixth save
