Federal court action promises state funds for school district

Pentagon moves ahead with Safeguard ABM construction

The Pentagon says it will start acquiring missiles and radars for the Safeguard antiballistic missile system using funds from last year’s Sentinel program, despite no congressional authorization. County workers face $1.5 million salary hike for 1969 70

Library trustees fight federal library funding cutback

Lompoc Library Board trustees fired off telegrams to Congressman Charles Teague and Senators George Murphy and Alan Cranston urging opposition to an $18 million cutback in federal library funding proposed by the US Budget Bureau. A Washington hearing will review the plan to trim 50 percent from allocations for library services and end federal funds for construction. The cutback could cripple the Black-Gold cooperative system and curtail book preparation and processing. The board also approved $1,375 to activate a photo-charge system replacing signature chargeout, with a July 1 completion target, and directed exploration of cheaper lawn options for the grounds.
