Tornadoes batter Ohio Kansas Missouri in deadly path
Tornadoes and high winds struck Ohio, Kansas, and Missouri, killing at least six people and injuring scores. In Joplin Missouri a wall collapsed trapping and killing residents. Ohio and Kansas also reported fatalities and extensive damage. National Guard mobilized as disaster response centers opened.

Congressman Reuss calls for Nixon resignation over Watergate
Rep. Henry S. Reuss of Wisconsin urged President Nixon and Vice President Agnew to contemplate resignation citing the Watergate scandal as crippling credibility abroad. Airman dies in motorcycle crash near Lompoc
An Airman 22 Arless George died when his motorcycle struck a Freight locomotive west of Lompoc on Floradale Avenue near Highway 246. Witnesses said the train horn failed to avert the collision and the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Inspector notes include the train engineer Tony Scafora 52 Grover City and that the accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m.
