Mitchell and Stans Indicted in Vecco Cash Probe

Former Nixon aides John Mitchell and Maurice Stans were indicted on conspiracy obstruction and perjury charges tied to a $200000 cash contribution to the Nixon reelection effort. William Farr to speak in Lompoc at public dinner

Los Angeles Times reporter William T. Farr, jailed for civil contempt over confidential sources in a Manson case, will appear in Lompoc May 24 at the Royal Coach Restaurant. Tickets are $4.50 and go on sale at local offices and outlets.

Frost asks Yorty apology over Regan bribery case

Santa Barbara County Supervisor Frank J. Frost calls Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty to apologize to local law enforcement and the court for accusing them of entrapment in the Phil Regan bribery case. Former FCI official to be sentenced June 11

Anthony Santiago former camp administrator at Lompoc Federal Correctional Institution faces sentencing June 11 after pleading guilty to one count of bribery in a case tied to the Alessio family of San Diego. Judge Malcolm M Lucas set the date.

Younger to visit VAFB for non political tour

California Attorney General Evelle J. Younger will visit Vandenberg Air Force Base for a non political tour. He will fly from Los Angeles International Airport to Vandenberg arriving around 10 to 10 15 a.m. A Air Force spokesman says Younger is a major general in the Air Force Reserves and will attend briefings at SAMTEC before lunch with junior officers at the Officers Club and deliver an undisclosed non political talk.

Lompoc Drop-In Center Faces Funding Cut in 1973 Grant

Assured hopes to operate the Lompoc Drop-In Center for another year were dashed by a Sacramento letter denying a rebudgeting proposal. Without the $5,000 local match, CCCJ cannot fund the $15,947 1973 74 grant, leaving the center, Hotline, and Dawn House at risk. The 72 project expired April 30 and officials note federal rules blocked the adjustment, but a slim chance remains.

Johnson admits error in budget announcement

County Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson acknowledged in a press release that his recommendations for expenditures of over $7 million in revenue sharing funds were not based on a board policy of prioritizing capital outlay and one time expenditures. Supervisors Frost and Catterlin pressed for changes as debates continued on allocating funds to social programs and a proposed north county detention facility drew criticism.

Skylab Countdown Smooth Despite Lightning Strike

Sky lab countdowns for the space station and its three man crew went smoothly after a lightning strike hit a mast on the mobile service structure near the Saturn 5 launch tower. Astronauts Conrad Kerwin and Weitz remain set to launch within about a day of the space station aboard a refurbished Apollo ferry ship that will dock with the lab for an eight month mission.
