May luncheon honors World War I Veterans Auxiliary

The installation luncheon featured a May Day and Mothers Day theme with Mrs. Dwelle Truesdale and Mrs. William Phillips as luncheon chairmen. Eleanor Howell was thanked for her past-year leadership and will serve a second term in 1973-74.

Celebration for Machados 25th wedding anniversary

More than 300 friends and relatives gathered at the Elk's Club in Lompoc to honor Mr. and Mrs. Joe Machado on their 25th anniversary. The event was planned by their children and featured a mock ceremony, a champagne toast, and music from the Silver notes of Santa Maria.

Som Girls Club Extends Hours For Summer Schedule

The Som Girls Club announces new summer hours: Tuesday to Friday 3 5 p m and Saturday 9 a m to 1 p m with Thursday evenings 7 10 for Jr High age and up. An overnight for ages 6 8 is planned Friday May 11 from 7 30 p m to 8 a m Saturday with cake baking and a birthday party at noon. Field trips include McDonald’s Lompoc Museum and a florist. New members welcome at 122 North G St or 6 1303.

Winnie Massey Day Proclaimed By Santa Maria Mayor

Mayor George S. Hobbs declared May 5 Winnie Massey Day in honor of the first chairman of Council 12 Toastmistress Clubs Sierra Nevada Region. The proclamation was presented at a Holiday Inn luncheon during the first spring conference with clubs from Lompoc Santa Maria San Luis Obispo and others attending.

Heroes of the Great Southwest by John Arnold Ford at Lompoc

John Arnold Ford presents Heroes of the Great Southwest a program blending ballads and stories about settlement days. Ford, a bass soloist with major orchestras, leads the Educational Opera Association which has staged hundreds of operas for students.

UNIVAC Wives Club Plans Vegas Night

UNIVAC Wives Club met at the home of Mrs. Floyd Rich on Orion Avenue with Mrs. William Gile as co hostess. They planned a Las Vegas Night for Friday May 18 at Evans Park Community Center Santa Maria and voted a $25 donation to the Michael Marek fund. Members made flowers for hospital tray favors at Lompoc Hospital. Next meeting is a luncheon in June.
