Rescuers in a small steel capsule reached the Sunshine mine bottom in Kellogg Idaho and began a mile long tunnel toward 58 missing miners after a mine fire killed 35. Crews worked through a 1100 foot ventilation shaft to connect Shafts 12 and 10 and reach a fresh air chamber at depth.
