Weekend fatal and nonfatal injuries in multiple traffic crashes
One person died and eight others were injured in a series of weekend crashes across Santa Barbara County. Olin Paul, 17, of Ballard, died Friday night in a loose gravel pickup rollover on Three Springs Road north of Rancho Alisal Road. Gregory Donovan, 16, of Solvang, the driver, was treated and released. Other injured include Paul Shelley 17 Solvang with a broken jaw and Robert Millar 16 Ballard with a hip injury. A skull fracture occurred to Michael Cruikshank 15 Solvang in a private property motorcycle collision. Michael Wilson 15 of Milky Way drove a second motorcycle. Thomas Neely 50 San Marino sustained fractured legs after being hit on Highway 246. Donald Costello 24 Vandenberg AFB had minor injuries in a car collision with Russell Hinkens 49 Mission Hills. Major damage reported to both cars in the North H Street incident.

The Internal Revenue Service has approved a 1.1 percent raise for Lompoc teachers and administrators effective December 14 to match the pre freeze level offered by the school board. The board meets at 3:30 p.m. in the Central Administration Building to note the action and discuss certificated and classified salary increases already set at 6.6 percent.

Apollo 16 defueling blast injures 46 at San Diego hangar
An explosion at the North Island Naval Air Station hangar during Apollo 16 fuel draining sent 46 people to hospitals for observation with no serious injuries.
