Compromise Sought Over California Health Board Shakeup
The flare up over plans to dissolve the 100 year old State Board of Public Health in a 1970 reorganization into a Health and Welfare super agency prompts calls for a new regulatory board. Dr. Earl Brian leads the agency with opponents urging a board to review health regulations, amid concerns over a 21,000-employee, multi-billion dollar department and a July 1 termination date for current board members.

Farm Center asks supervisors to halt impact study
The Carpinteria Farm Center urged the Board of Supervisors to stop any county environmental impact report on the Carpinteria Valley flower growing industry and to reject the City Council’s request. Center chairman Charles A. McNeill Jr. said the study would waste time and harass a key local economy, noting most greenhouses lie outside Carpinteria and county control applies. He praised the county zoning ordinance amendment for greenhouse screening and setbacks and suggested giving it time to prove effective.
