Youths Charged After Cypress Crash Involving Marijuana

A 17-year-old juvenile and two others were charged with possession of marijuana after their car hit a parked Pico's Sporting Goods vehicle at Cypress Avenue and Seventh Street. Passenger Larry Olson, 20, was treated and released at Lompoc Hospital. Driver Allen Wilhite, 19, and the youth were booked in Lompoc Jail while the juvenile was sent to probation authorities.

Scout Fun Fair Draws 3000 in Santa Maria

More than 3,000 adults and youngsters attended the annual Scout Fun Fair in Santa Maria on Saturday. Events centered on the theme Scouting is a lot more than you think, with Lompoc Troops 60 63 102 185 and 392, Cub Packs 101 102 103 166 167, and Explorer Post 700 represented. The Lompoc Senior Citizens Nuts and Bolts band performed on home made instruments, and exhibits covered science sailing leathercraft recycling first aid camping natural foods woodworking and law enforcement. Participants hailed from Lompoc Mission Hills Vandenberg Village and Santa Maria.

Helm Kuns and Wilson Lead Open Gymkhana Winners

Shirley Helm Valerie Kuns and Kathy Wilson topped the first open gymkhana by the Lompoc Valley Riders at La Salle Canyon Stables. Helm earned 22 points in the 18-and-over group while Kuns had 26 in 13 to 17 and Wilson 38 in 12-and-under, each receiving a saddle pad.
