Nixon to seek creation of drug enforcement super agency

President Nixon sent a plan to Congress to consolidate drug law enforcement into a single super agency within the Justice Department. The move would merge the Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, and Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement, with about 500 customs agents shifted to the new unit. Rehabilitation and education programs would not transfer.

Board weighs matching funds for Santa Barbara Santa Maria symphonies

The Santa Barbara and Santa Maria symphonies seek county aid and union backing. Supervisor Frank J. Frost, a union member, supports public funds for the two orchestras. The requests were sent to the administrative officer for study and to budget sessions this spring. A follow up report on musicians' union backing will also be provided.

County(rx) Bikeway Funding Moves Toward Transportation Dept

A University of California Extension study tour will study five central California missions including La Purisima in Lompoc. It begins with an orientation in Santa Maria on April 5. Richard J. Hitchman of Cuesta College will teach the course.
