Atlas Van Lines Executive Warns of Summer Moving Crunch
J J Thorne vice president of Atlas Van Lines Evansville Ind warns a record number of moves this summer could strain fuel supplies and logistics. He cites 30 000 over the road vans on highways and gas station shortages as threats to the moving industry and 20 million Americans relocating June through September. He suggests spreading moves spreading them out piggybacking and using sea transport to ease the load and notes a 15.6 percent cost rise approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission with fuel costs rising six percent borne by the user.
