Mission will profit from parks bond says Mott to board

William Penn Mott, state parks chief, told the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors that a $250 million state park bond would include $15 million for historic preservation at La Purisima Mission and nearby land and utility work. The county would receive about $1.13 million for unincorporated areas and cities, with projects listed such as Refugio and El Capitan Beach Park improvements and a trail linking Santa Barbara to La Purisima.

Frances Martinez Dies City Treasurer After Short Illness

Frances Martinez city treasurer died yesterday afternoon at Goleta Valley Hospital after a brief illness. services are pending at Starbuck Mortuary. Martinez joined city service in 1961 and was named permanent treasurer in June 1973. She lived in Lompoc since 1958 and was active in Quota Club. She is survived by husband Max two sons a daughter and three grandchildren.

K Mart redesigns project after surveying error delays plans

Planning Commission heard that a 50 foot surveying error forces K Mart to redesign the H Street North Avenue store project. Community Development Director Al Autry said the company is reassessing and may miss the March 1975 completion target.

Dean Testifies Mitchell Asked Help Over Vesco Probe

Former White House Counsel John W. Dean III testified that he called Attorney General Richard Kleindienst in 1972 at Mitchell’s request to complain about prosecutors. The trial concerns Mitchell and Stans accused of aiding Vesco’s SEC probe in exchange for a Nixon campaign donation. Vesco fled and Dean was named a co conspirator but not indicted.

Panel gets grand jury report in Nixon Watergate case

The House Judiciary Committee took possession of the Watergate grand jury report and related materials from U.S. District Judge John Sirica after a court order. The transfer included a two page summary and a leather briefcase as Sirica noted the inventory and completion of transmittal.

Boyle enters court amid murder trial illness claim

In Media Pennsylvania UPI reports former United Mine Workers president W A Tony Boyle, 72, suffering heart problems and recovering from barbiturate overdose, entered court to face murder charges in the 1969 Yablonski killings. A juror, Charles Lord Jr., was added as the trial advanced. A related development: Claude Vealey, who confessed, was moved from prison to testify. In Buenos Aires armed groups abducted one industrialist and killed another, part of renewed violence as Esso awaits Victor Samuelson release after a record ransom.
