Emergency specialists leave base after flood repair work at Vandenberg
Two teams from the 3rd Mobile Communications Group and Norton AFB, California, dispatched to Vandenberg repaired and reestablished radio and cable links. TSgt Clarence Strodecker led four mobile facilities handling 24 voice channels and 16 teletype circuits. CMSgt Charles Brown headed a GEEIA team that laid 100 circuit and 400 circuit cables across flooded areas to support Air Force ranges and systems. Both groups operated under 1STRAD and the 4392nd Communications Squadron supervision.

Ceremony draws many students at Hancock College
The capping ceremony for Hancock College health occupations students drew about 300 people at the student center marking the program’s second capping. Dean Ray Mills praised the program as well accepted and led the event with guest speakers from Ventura County vocational education and local education administration. Special recognitions were given to Lt. Col. Daniel Vernino, Lompoc General Hospital staff, and 392nd Aerospace units for their support and lectures. A Lent/Easter Cantata will be held at 7 15 p m Sunday March 2 at the base center chapel with Protestant and Catholic choirs and soloists Fran Simonton Steve Lott and Chaplain Major T J Preston. The Requiem by Gabriel Faure will be performed with most singing in English and parts in Latin. The base chaplain said area residents are invited.

The Vandenberg AFB procurement office announced three awards. A. J. Diani Construction of Santa Maria received 22 216 for parking lot work at the chapel building. M. J. Hermreck of Nipomo won 48 312 for maintenance of base parking lots. Cal Electric of Santa Paula earned 21 821 for repair of the base street light system. Start around March 25 with 90 days to completion.
