Farmers fear overdevelopment threaten valley farming

In Lompoc Valley farmers led by 39-year veteran Bob Hibbits warn that rapid growth endangers agriculture. He urges strict zoning to separate farmland and urban areas, criticizes five to twenty acre farm classifications, and calls for excluding land-transaction professionals from planning. A separate item notes a bishop in Pavia, Italy rescuing a drowning man from a canal.

Registration for Term IV at Allan Hancock College

Allan Hancock College announces Term IV registration at the VAFE Center. Military personnel register March 26–27. all students register March 28–April 4. Dr. John G. Narcotic charge for VAFB man

Robert L. Winkle 20 of Vandenberg Air Force Base was jailed in Lompoc on narcotics charges after a 5:50 p.m. stop for a broken taillight on Saturn Avenue in Vandenberg Village. Deputies seized what appeared to be cocaine and LSD and booked him on possessing narcotics paraphernalia and dangerous drugs.

Downtown development study favors preserving Grace Temple and Lompoc Museum

The study recommends keeping Grace Temple Baptist Church and the Lompoc Museum in their current period styles while refurbishing other downtown structures to align with a mission motif. It notes the Lilley Building should retain its Victorian character as a nod to Lompoc’s past.

Rezoning Delays debated for Lompoc parcels near Central Ave and A St

Lompoc Planning Commission planned to delay prezoning actions on about 126 acres north of Central Avenue and east and west of A Street to finish environmental impact statements. Land is slated for annexation with mobile home parks and a commercial center. Other items include home office permit for Roy C Learned at 330 South D Street and a gun repair business request for George B Donnelly on F Street.
