Census finds tax share similar across income groups

Census figures show about 30 percent of income goes to taxes for most families across income bands from under 2000 to over 50 000 dollars. The poorest group pays the highest share at about 50 percent, driven by regressive state and local taxes, with federal taxes rising with income but less variation.

Divorce rate in Seattle police shown as high

An unofficial Seattle Police Department survey finds about 60 percent of married officers are divorced in their first three years on the job. A 10 week program for wives of new officers begins this month to familiarize them with the criminal justice system and police hours.
