Reagan launches tax limitation push in California

Gov. Ronald Reagan unveiled a two front effort to win support for his tax limitation plan. He announced Senate introduction of a state constitutional amendment and the formation of a citizens committee to push the signature drive. The move followed a Senate committee's approval of returning an $852 million budget surplus to the people. Senator Lagomarsino voiced surprise at the sponsor's stance as Reagan pressed ahead.

Reagan hosts returning POWs at private Sacramento dinner

Governor Reagan and Mrs. Reagan entertain 21 returning prisoners of war at the governor’s mansion. Navy Cmdr. Charles E. Southwick presented a prison-used spoon to Mrs. Reagan, who tearfully thanked him as he recalled his captivity May 14, 1967.

POWs recall propaganda shaping 1969 election views

North Vietnamese propaganda influenced American POWs to believe George McGovern would win the election. S.Sgt. David N. Harker recalls POWs' happiness at Nixon's victory, the antiwar movement, VVAW activities, John Kerry's testimony, medals thrown at the Capitol, and efforts to block news of Nixon's China visit.
