ITT chief met CIA officer in 1970 Washington hotel

ITT president Harold Geneen met with CIA official William Broe in a Washington Sheraton Carlton hotel on July 26 1970 for about 25 minutes. ITT testified it sought to protect its Chilean interests and opposed Allende's election. Merriam said he escorted Geneen and later stayed in contact with Broe as directed.

Senate Bill could give Santa Barbara County three senators

The state capitol hearing on Senate Bill 195 would create three Santa Barbara County senators by redrawing districts. County officials filed the CAO report showing Grunsky loses part of his district to Vandenberg AFB while Stiern gains the north county and Goleta Valley, Lagomarisno keeps the southeast south coast. Emergency crews watched through the night in Lompoc as forecasts predicted a heavier storm. Rain reached 1.21 inches in the city, flooding key intersections and lifting the season total to 21.62 inches.

Gas can explodes. Village boy burned seriously

Micael Mack a 15 year old of Vandenberg Village was badly burned when a gasoline can exploded while he stood near his home at 4124 Constellation Road. He was found with third degree burns to both legs and treated at Vandenberg Air Force Base Hospital. Deputies and county firemen responded at 4 30 p m. Authorities investigated and a neighbor helped summon aid.
