The Sierra Club invites the public to a March 21 8 p.m. program in the new library general purpose room 501 E North Ave featuring Dick Smith of Santa Barbara a journalist and artist His topic The Month of Disaster covers recent floods oil pollution and ecological impacts with air based photographs and near and long term consequences. Refreshments served no charge for admission.

B 52 pilot makes history at Lake Huron rescue
Major Robert Winn piloted a B 52 on a dangerous six hour endurance flight off Lake Huron after an engine loss. He jettisoned fuel to starve the right pods and safely landed the eight engine bomber with 81 000 pounds of fuel remaining. This represented an unprecedented event in B 52 history. The mission drew attention from SAC leadership and Kansas test pilots as officials monitored from base and coastlines. Winn hails from Clarksville Tennessee and acknowledges his wife’s vigil during the incident.
