Lawmakers consider manpower center to unite state programs
Sacramento reports bi partisan sponsors push to consolidate the Department of Human Resources Development the Department of Rehabilitation and the California Job Development Program into a new Department of Manpower. Governor Reagan’s plan gains traction as Assemblyman Bill Greene and Senator Robert J Lagomarsino back the proposal. The plan would keep Community Manpower Centers in labor market areas to oversee local job placement and training with community input. Some rehabilitation units fear loss of autonomy but overall support exists.
