Nixon warns Hanoi of force in Vietnam crisis

President Nixon told a White House press conference that continued infiltration of heavy weapons into South Vietnam could trigger a resumption of U.S. military action. He warned Hanoi against violations of cease-fire agreements and suggested serious consequences without detailing them.

Trustees seek feasibility study of Lompoc lunch program

Fire at Lompoc Junior High Leaves Student Burned

Palmer testifies in Phil egan bribery trial

County Reporter Dick Praul reports Palmer the key prosecution witness testified in Superior Court about a January bribery scheme. He described Regan delivering a bundle of crumpled $100 bills and a promise of payoffs to secure favorable votes for Tyrolean Village rezoning. Palmer recounted the route home in a 1973 Cadillac and noted Frost’s involvement. The defense and state presented recordings and meetings details as the trial continued.

Seven arrested in Lompoc drug sweep

Seven adults and two 17 year old girls were arrested in Lompoc as part of a two county narcotics sweep that yielded about 70 suspects. The adults, including Gary Timms James Jackson William Jones Clifford Gilmore and Charles King all 23 to 26, faced marijuana sale and heroin charges and were arraigned in Lompoc Justice Court. two teen girls were sent to juvenile authorities.

POWs Released From Vietnam War Return Home At Clark

Army Maj. Floyd Thompson the longest held POW walks free with 31 others in Homecoming phase at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. The group joins 110 previously released POWs as 147 Americans remain in captivity in Indochina.

United States Halts Vietnam Troop Withdrawals Again

The United States orders a new halt to troop withdrawals from South Vietnam until it receives names dates and locations of release for the last 146 American POWs and one Canadian. Viet Cong releases 32 prisoners as about 700 U.S. servicemen head home, with Hanoi and Washington trading warnings on cease fire violations and arms shipments.
