Highway patrol fought back with tear gas and night sticks as buses were overturned and officers were assaulted. Injured dolphin dies after rescue at Jalama Beach
A four foot long injured dolphin weighing 50 to 60 pounds with a broken jaw washed ashore at Jalama Beach. Cabrillo High School hikers spotted it and carried it to the Jalama Ranger station where Mrs. Floyd Campbell helped. Oceanographic experts at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo confirmed the dolphin died after transport to Seascape in the Sky. Experts identified it as a Northern Right Whale Dolphin or Northern Great Whale Dolphin, species rarely seen along the California coast.
