Lompoc Concert to Feature Guitar Virtuoso Christopher Parkening
The Lompoc Community Concert Association presents the final 1969 70 program at the Lompoc Theater on Tuesday night. Christopher Parkening, 20, will perform guitar pieces after doors open at 7 30 p.m. and curtain calls at 8 15 p.m. Season cards prove admission, with a one time purchase option for student body card holders. Parkening, hailed as America s leading young guitarist, studied with Celedonio Romero and Pepe Romero and later with Piatigorsky during a U S Master Class under Andre Segovia at UC Berkeley. He was the class youngest member and one of three chosen to solo on a televised segment.

Pollution talk by UC Santa Barbara professor at Lompoc event
Dr Norman Sanders assistant professor in the Department of Geography at University of California Santa Barbara will speak on Pollution in Our Environment at the Lompoc Vandenberg Branch of the American Association of University Women on March 4. He holds NSF grants and has studied offshore geomorphology and near shore oceanography. He recently returned from a Fulbright in Tasmania and has worked with Space General Corporation and Collins Radio. He is author of articles including Geographical Analysis of a Pollution Incident: The 1969 Santa Barbara Oil Spill.

The Officers Wives Club of Vandenberg Air Force Base will award $1,000 in scholarships to qualifying high school and junior college graduates. One ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade student will receive honor certificates based on top scores from the committee.
