The forecast calls for clear to fair conditions through Sunday with slightly warmer days. Highs 60 to 65 inches, lows 35 to 45, and variable winds 5 to 15 mph. Tidal outlook shows Sunday highs 5.7 ft at 8:44 am and 4.3 ft at 9:50 pm with low tides 1.6 ft at 2:38 am and minus 0.7 ft at 3:32 pm. A new oil slick off Santa Barbara threatens miles of beaches as crews fight the leak from a Union Oil platform. Israel strikes Jordan again in 45 minute raid

Israeli warplanes conducted a 45 minute bombing and rocket attack six miles south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Jordan Valley. No Jordanian casualties reported though crops were destroyed. Tass claimed a jet was shot down. Israel did not confirm. The action follows a Friday raid in the same area. In Cairo, Al Ahram said de Gaulle urged Nixon to back a Soviet peace plan.

Council to hire design firm for new fire station

City Council plan to hire Kruger-Benson-Zieger of Santa Barbara to design a fire station on city-owned property at Street and Laurel Avenue with a projected cost of 300000 to 350000. Bond approval by voters will finance construction. June ballot proposed. The council also considers International Engineering Co. from San Francisco as consultants for the Lompoc Reservoir Project at 25 dollars per hour plus expenses.

Fire damages Atha home on North Poppy

Fire of undetermined origin gutted one bedroom and caused heavy smoke damage at 520 North Poppy Avenue Lompoc. Two children Christy 9 and Loretta Loveau 12 fled with two granddaughters of Mrs Atha as two Chihuahua dogs and six pet birds died in the blaze. One dog was revived by firemen but died later at a veterinary hospital.

Boys Club Sleepover Highlights Town Activities

Seven boys spent the night at the Boys Club and wandered about town today. Lompoc Jaycees travel to Atascadero to back DeWayne Holmdahl in the Standing Young Farmers competition for state office.
