Los Angeles Council ends merit pay hike plan
The Los Angeles City Council voted 12 to 0 to repeal a 5.5 percent merit pay raise for 19 of the 36 highest paid executives, joining a 6 percent base raise and 4 percent fringe benefits rollback for about 1,600 other workers. City leaders, citing comparisons with county state and federal pay, also moved to propose charter amendments to curb top salaries and broaden wage rules. Police Chief Ed Davis would have earned about 69,760 annually under proposed increases.
