Nixon leeaps to lift fuel quotas and fund energy push
President Nixon plans to lift fuel import quotas and tariffs, launch a $10 billion five year crash energy program, and appoint an energy czar in the White House with Lee as energy secretary in the Cabinet. The plan also includes a new Office of Energy Policy, a Department of Energy and Natural Resources, and a separate energy research agency including the Atomic Energy Commission. Melvin Laird will guide domestic talks as Moynihan may advise on aid policy while Watergate dominates headlines.
