SB Vessel Sinks In Channel Near Santa Barbara
A 37 foot commercial fishing vessel sank in heavy seas off San Miguel Island in the Santa Barbara Channel early today. One crewman was swept overboard and three were aboard. Coast Guard rescued the other two. Seven boats and aircraft aided in search for the missing sailor. The vessel sent a distress call at 2 a.m. as five foot seas overwhelmed it between San Miguel and Santa Rosa islands. A helicopter found winds too strong to lower a pump.
